Different Reactions to a New School Year

Share

Re “Craving That 9-Month Break,” Voices, Aug. 31: As summer was winding down to the beginning of a new school year, my thoughts were of worry and excitement. I was about to move to another city, six hours away from my home in San Jose. Moving to a place where I would not know anyone was a little intimidating. On the other hand, I was excited to go off to college, to play soccer and to meet new people.

I am a freshman at Cal State Northridge, and my summer flew by. I dreaded the day that I would have to drive away from my family and closest friends to an unfamiliar place. Now, after living in Northridge for one month, I have made wonderful friends, mostly from soccer, but outside of soccer as well. And now that I look back, school started at just the right time. It’s funny how different people’s perspectives can be; from college student to fourth-grader to teacher, school is going to start whether we are ready or not.
