Man Surrenders in Theft of Jackie Robinson Ring
A 21-year-old man surrendered Thursday to begin serving a 180-day jail term for stealing a 1953 National League championship ring that once belonged to baseball legend Jackie Robinson.
Miguel Rodriguez, 21, surrendered in Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rand S. Rubin’s courtroom. Rodriguez had pleaded last month to grand theft of personal property and receiving stolen property, prosecutors said.
Rodriguez sold the ring, valued at $12,000, to a pawnbroker for $100. He notified police in April; Rodriguez was arrested soon afterward. The ring was returned to Robinson’s brother-in-law, Charles Ray Isum, who got it from his sister, who was Robinson’s widow.
