U.S. Says Suit Over Salton Sea Is Meritless

The federal government Thursday branded as meritless a lawsuit filed Wednesday by environmentalists and an Indian tribe alleging that the government has failed in its duty to rescue the problem-plagued Salton Sea.
A statement by the Bureau of Reclamation said that the 1998 Salton Sea Reclamation Act does not require the government to fix the sea, but mandates providing a report on possible remedies to Congress, and said the report was done during the Clinton administration.
