Boy, It’s a Good Thing Trojans Didn’t Lose

Share

Before any players or coaches pull more hamstrings patting themselves on the back after a nice victory over Auburn, allow me to remind them of a few things.

First, how good Auburn is has yet to be determined. We beat Penn State in the season opener two years ago, and if you want to know how that season turned out, just ask the offensive coordinator with the Jets, Paul what’s-his-name.

Second, we have a running game that, at times, resembles someone rolling a barrel uphill.

Third, we have a star wide receiver who coughed up the ball in the fourth quarter on a potentially winning drive. And we still have a quarterback who likes to keep the other team in the game.

That being said, I will admit there were glimmers of hope to be found (a kicker!). But let’s call this what it was: a good step on the long road back to respectability. A road, it seems, we’ve been on for more than a decade.

The Trojans are going to scare a lot of people this year and drive the rest crazy. And, that’s just in the USC rooting section.
