Congo, Uganda Sign Peace Agreement
Uganda and Congo have signed a deal to help bring peace to Congo, where four years of civil war have left about 2.5 million people dead. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his Congolese counterpart, Joseph Kabila, signed the accord in the Angolan capital, Luanda. The signing was witnessed by Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
Diplomats said the accord committed Uganda to withdrawing its remaining troops from Congo, where they have been fighting alongside rebels.
Congo, in turn, pledged to take action against rebels based in the east of the mineral-rich country who are hostile to the Museveni government in Kampala.
