At Least 25 Dead After Train Plunges Into River
An express train traveling from Calcutta to New Delhi derailed and plunged into a river, with at least 25--and perhaps as many as 100--passengers killed, police said.
Eleven cars careened into the river, said an officer at the police control room in Patna, the capital of Bihar state. He said that some of the dead and 100 injured people had been recovered from the river and that the engine and two additional train cars were still dangling from a bridge.
Rescuers were headed toward the Rajdhani Express, which derailed about 40 miles south of Patna in the Dhawasimar Rathi Ganj area of Bihar, the officer said.
