Switzerland Admitted as 190th Member

Switzerland became the 190th member of the United Nations, pledging to respect its traditional neutrality while pursuing human rights, world peace and the struggle against poverty.
The General Assembly admitted Switzerland as one of its first official acts opening its 57th session. The tiny Southeast Asian nation of East Timor is to become the 191st member later this month.
