Rates on 30-, 15-Year Mortgages Move Up

The average interest rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose this week to 6.18%, according to a nationwide survey by Freddie Mac. That was up from last week’s 6.15%, the lowest rate since the mortgage company began its survey in April 1971.

Rates for 15-year fixed-rate mortgages moved up to 5.59%. Last week’s rate was 5.56%, the lowest since Freddie Mac began tracking the rates in August 1991. For one-year adjustable mortgages, rates dipped to 4.32%, from 4.35% last week.

Each loan type carried an average 0.6 point fee this week.
