Environmental Activist Named to Forestry Board
Gov. Gray Davis, accused of stacking the Board of Forestry with timber industry supporters, appointed an environmental activist to the board Thursday.
Davis named biological consultant Susan Britting, 43, of Coloma, a habitat conservation specialist who holds positions with the California Native Plant Society, the American River Conservancy and the Sierra Nevada Forest Protection Campaign.
Britting worked for the U.S. Forest Service from 1993 to 1997.
Senate President Pro Tem John Burton of San Francisco has blocked confirmation of Davis’ appointments since January, arguing that appointments by his fellow Democrat are too oriented toward the timber industry.
