U.S. Dance Tutor’s Travel Ban Overturned
An Iranian American folk dance teacher who was arrested when he visited Iran in May has had a 10-year travel ban overturned by an Iranian appeals court, his lawyer said.
Mohamad Khordadian’s dances, which include women, landed him in hot water in Iran, where they were broadcast via satellite TV and were available on video. Mixed-sex dancing is forbidden in Iran.
The lawyer said Khordadian, who lived in Los Angeles, was relieved but had no plans to return to live in the U.S. He was arrested when he visited Iran for the first time in more than 20 years and was charged with promoting corruption by holding mixed-sex dance classes in the U.S.
