From Times Wire Reports

Federal authorities warned state residents of an unexplained increase in cases of Listeria monocytogenes, a food-borne bacteria that can cause severe illness.

To protect against listeria, the agencies suggested that people at risk avoid soft cheeses and not eat hot dogs and lunch meats unless they are heated until steaming hot. They also suggested avoiding refrigerated smoked seafood and unpasteurized milk.
