Rockets Reportedly Fired Near U.S. Base

KABUL, Afghanistan —  U.S. aircraft patrolled the skies over an eastern Afghan town Monday after unidentified attackers fired rockets near a U.S. outpost, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Six rockets exploded early Monday near the airport in Khowst where U.S. troops have a base, said Mohammed Khan Gorbuz, spokesman for the provincial governor.

Elsewhere, two U.S. special operations soldiers were slightly injured Sunday when their vehicle hit an explosive device, possibly a land mine, between the eastern cities of Asadabad and Jalalabad, the U.S. military said.

The two soldiers were flown by helicopter to Bagram air base and were treated for minor injuries. Both were expected to return to duty today, a U.S. spokesman said.
