U.N. Suspends Food Aid in North After Attack
From Times Wire Reports
The U.N. World Food Program suspended operations in northern Uganda after rebels attacked a food convoy and killed a driver.
The guerrillas, believed to be members of the Lord’s Resistance Army, on Saturday ambushed the convoy of eight trucks, all marked with WFP flags and traveling with an army escort. The army repulsed the attack after exchanging fire.
The suspension leaves 120,000 people without food aid. The Lord’s Resistance Army is led by a self-styled prophet who wants to oust the government and rule by the Ten Commandments.
