School Drivers Checked After Fire Kills 8 Pupils
Police in Bogota, the Colombian capital, stopped school vehicles to check drivers’ permits after an unlicensed bus driver accidentally started a fire that killed eight children.
The fire began as the driver tried to pour gasoline into the carburetor after the van would not start Tuesday, witnesses said. The vehicle became engulfed in flames, killing eight children inside. The driver, an adult chaperon and several other children were injured.
Authorities said the driver did not have a license to drive a school vehicle.
