‘Greek Wedding’ to Be Series on CBS
CBS picked up “My Big Fat Greek Family,” based on the current hit movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” as a midseason series for early next year.
The show will be headlined by the film’s star and screenwriter Nia Vardalos, a CBS spokesman said. Brad Grey Television (HBO’s “The Sopranos”) and Sony Pictures Television will produce the series in association with Playtone Pictures, the endeavor of superstar Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and Hank’s wife, Rita Wilson, who championed turning Vardalos’ one-woman show into a movie.
According to Grey, whose management company also represents Vardalos, “We’ve put all the original cast together” for the series with the exception of male lead John Corbett, “who has another series commitment.”
CBS had passed on ordering the show for its upcoming fall season before the movie was a blockbuster.
