Breakout Sparks Riot at Prison; 11 Die
At least 11 prisoners died, most of them asphyxiated in fires, during a riot after dozens of inmates escaped from a prison in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Two inmates were beaten to death by rival gangs and nine others died of smoke inhalation from blazes set in cells, a local public security spokesman said.
By Saturday evening, 21 of the 59 escapees had been caught.
