U.S. Hitting the Marks in Baghdad

Share

Two weeks of nearly continuous bombing have set the scene for a final assault on the Iraqi capital by U.S.-led forces. The aerial attack targeted key government and military targets, including the Republican Palace, which contained the offices of Saddam Hussein, and Abu Ghraib Palace, for years the suspected site of a chemical weapons plant. In the photo at right, smoke from oil fires set by the Iraqi military obscures parts of the city. Most of the images were taken at 12:03 p.m. Tuesday.
