If he has to fly, he’ll skip the trip

As the son of an international airline captain and a pilot in the Marine Corps for 22 years, I have spent a lot of time in the back -- and front -- of aircraft. But after two recent trips, I’ll never fly commercial aviation again. It has just become too hard.
On a recent ski trip to Utah, I did not enjoy doing the “bag drag” to a security checkpoint after standing in line at the main ticket counter. I do not enjoy having to arrive at the airport two hours early for a 45-minute flight to Las Vegas.
It’s not the fault of the airlines or even the Transportation Security Administration. The Sept. 11 terrorists are to blame.
I’ve decided if I cannot drive there, I’m not going. But I’ll really miss Tahiti.
