The Parks Will Suffer if Rangers Are Muzzled

Share

Re “Law of Political Jungle Snares a Ranger,” Commentary, April 14: I met Bob Jackson when he stopped by our campsite to check on my buddies and me when we were backpacking through the Thorofare region of Yellowstone National Park. We found him to be full of helpful information on the area in general and on grizzly bears in particular. It alarms and saddens me to read that Jackson has lost his job for pursuing it with the same intelligence and dedication I got a glimpse of in 2001. If the Park Service does not listen to the insights of its rangers, the parks will suffer greatly for it. If it fires employees for having the unmitigated gall to speak up when they see serious problems, then our national parks are doomed.
