City Wins Praise From Foundation for Blind
Berkeley has been named the second most livable city in the country for the blind and visually impaired by the American Foundation for the Blind.
The first Livable Community awards, presented Wednesday by the New York-based foundation, praised Berkeley’s public transportation, said foundation spokeswoman Kelly Parisi.
The criteria included transportation, pedestrian safety, employment opportunities, housing affordability, and access to services and cultural amenities.
Charlotte, N.C., won first-place honors. Kalamazoo, Mich., placed third in the ratings, and New York City was fourth.
