Michels Wins at Irwindale

Rip Michels earned his first win of the season by taking the second round of the Miller Lite Big Ten Challenge in the 75-lap main event at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday night in front of 4,649 fans.

Michels grabbed the lead on lap 48 from Greg Pursley after a crash knocked out two cars in front of him. Pursley finished second.

In the 75-lap Auto Club Late Model series feature, defending champion Todd Burns earned his 27th career win at the track by holding off Scott Youngren and Jess Flores for the win. Burns took the lead from Youngren on lap 27 after starting in the second row.

In the 35-lap Grand American Modified series feature, Rod Johnson survived a furious battle with former Super Stock driver Andrew Phipps to win by 0.081 seconds.

Tom Landreth won the 35-lap King Taco Legend Cars series feature, and Lee Ladd won the 35-lap Vista Paint Super Stock series feature.
