Reliving Death Valley memories
Susan Spano’s wonderful piece on Death Valley (“Tranquillity Base,” March 30), with the picture of the pool at Furnace Creek Inn, brought back 40-year-old memories.
My wife, Vivian, and I used to camp in Death Valley. In those days campers were allowed to use the pool at the inn. When we asked the lifeguard what kind of people stayed at the inn, he replied: “The newlyweds, the overfeds and the half-deads.” I wonder what the lifeguards would say today.
