Officials Identify Bodies of Soldiers Shown on TV
British troops have recovered the remains of two soldiers whose bodies were shown on television after a battle in southern Iraq last month.
The Defense Ministry said bodies exhumed from a grave near Zubayr had been identified as Sapper Luke Allsopp, 24, and Staff Sgt. Simon Cullingworth, 36. The bomb-disposal experts vanished March 23.
Bodies believed to be those of the two -- bloodied and lying in a road -- were shown by Arabic-language channel Al Jazeera. Prime Minister Tony Blair said the men had been “executed,” although Allsopp’s family said the British army had told them the two had died in combat.
