Citizenship for Sale in U.S. Border Towns

Re “Affluent Cross Border to U.S. for Childbirth,” April 17: Who says American citizenship is not for sale? One need only prepay a local San Diego hospital for obstetric services, jump in a cab or limo for the quick trip across the border -- and the rest is history. Hospitals along the southern American border deal with illegal immigrants on a daily basis, and the cost, whether prepaid or not, is enormous.

The children are innocent, but the parents are guilty of a total disregard for U.S. laws. Why do we continue to grant citizenship to the children of those who laugh at the thousands of legal immigrants who have waited for many years, sacrificed to accumulate enough money to make a “go of it” when they arrive and have become valued members of the American family?
