Mistrial Declared in Clergy Assault Case
A judge in Laconia declared a mistrial after the jury deadlocked on rape and attempted rape charges against a priest in the first criminal trial from the state’s church abuse scandal.
Another trial will likely be held, said Peter Callaghan, lawyer for Father George Robichaud. He declined further comment because of that possibility.
One juror later said the panel was divided on the accuser’s age. The indictment charged Robichaud with raping and attempting to rape the accuser when he was between the ages of 13 and 15, a minor.
