Shannon MacMillan scored four goals Saturday, powering the United States to a 6-1 rout of a Canadian women’s team that was assembled only days earlier.

She scored the most goals in a game by a U.S. player since Tiffeny Milbrett had five against Panama in November 2002.

The U.S. scored six consecutive goals after yielding a goal in the seventh minute of the exhibition game. MacMillan had three goals in the second half.

Kristine Lilly and Julie Foudy also scored for the U.S., which is 17-0-2 in its last 19 home games.

Until Wednesday the U.S. had been scheduled to play Nigeria, but Nigeria had problems with travel documents.

MacMillan tied the score at 1-1 in the 16th minute on a direct kick from outside the penalty area that overpowered goalie Erin McLeod.

MacMillan scored again in the 55th minute when she one-touched a pass from Aly Wagner over McLeod from 35 yards away. She added goals in the 78th and 79th minutes.

Lilly, making her 250th appearance for the national team, put the United States ahead, 2-1, in the 33rd minute.

Foudy scored her first goal this season for the national team about a minute before halftime.
