From Times Wire Reports

A 14-year-old girl and a steer named Mongo were dethroned as Illinois State Fair champions after the animal tested positive for a banned drug.

Officials said it was the first time the fair had disqualified a grand champion because of a drug violation.

The girl, Whitney Gray, seemed stunned by the turnaround. “It was really exciting, and then it wasn’t very much fun at all,” she said.

Her mother said the family had given the steer an anti-inflammatory drug to treat a sore hoof.
