Ramsey Says Heat Will Be No Sweat

Most USC players are unfamiliar with the heat and humidity they are expected to encounter at Auburn in their Aug. 30 opener.

Sophomore defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey, however, knows what awaits.

Ramsey, who will alternate with starters Shaun Cody and Mike Patterson, was born in Alabama and spent summers there after moving to California when he was 3.

“It’s been about four years since I’ve been back,” Ramsey said. “I know how it is with the humidity. It wears you down at first, but after you get your second wind, it’s just like playing here.”

About a dozen friends and relatives, including a cousin who attends Auburn, will be in attendance at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Ed Orgeron, USC’s defensive line coach, said the 6-foot-3, 270-pound Ramsey would play a major role for a unit that also includes defensive ends Kenechi Udeze and Omar Nazel.

“He’s playing hard and he’s learned his stuff,” Orgeron said. *
