President Threatens Tapper of His Phone
From Times Wire Reports
An irate Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo threatened to prosecute whoever was responsible for tapping his telephone and airing the private conversation on national television.
The audiotape, aired on Frecuencia Latina, appeared to show that spy equipment routinely used under ex-President Alberto Fujimori was still in operation, a senior presidential aide said. Frecuencia Latina declined to comment.
In the conversation, Toledo was debating a trip to a southern city.
