State’s First West Nile Virus Death Recorded

A 78-year-old Chaves County man has died from the West Nile virus, the state’s first such death.
State health officials in Santa Fe said tests identified the infection in the man, whose identity was not disclosed and who had been hospitalized for the last two weeks with encephalitis.
The state also reported 15 new cases of the disease for a total of 24 confirmed cases.
