State Should Complete Wetlands Purchase

Many thanks to The Times for its wise Aug. 15 editorial supporting the state purchase of the Ballona Wetlands. Having worked for 29 years toward the preservation and restoration of this last wetland in Los Angeles County, it is particularly gratifying to Friends of Ballona Wetlands to find our goal within reach at last.

A word of caution: We aren’t there yet, so it’s imperative that we all unite and make sure this happens. We urge everyone who cares (and even some who may never have cared before) to join us in supporting this unique opportunity to achieve an ecological triumph. If we don’t do it now, how will we ever answer the question our children will surely ask: “Who lost Ballona?”
