County Sells Used Goods on EBay to Raise Cash
Strapped for cash in a tight budget year, Solano County is raising money by holding online garage sales.
The county is using EBay to sell its surplus cell phones, laptops and even vintage coins. The state’s General Services Department has used the popular auction site since 2000 to clear out storage rooms, and this year it invited local governments to participate in its program.
Solano County is one of the first local jurisdictions to sign up. The county auctioned off small items that had been confiscated by the Sheriff’s Department, including old laptops, jewelry and even a Sony PlayStation. The items brought in about $1,500.
