Heat Death Toll 2,000, Rights Group Alleges

A Spanish patients’ rights group alleged that the recent devastating heat wave killed more than 2,000 people in Spain, challenging preliminary government estimates that just 101 had died.

Carmen Flores, president of the Assn. for the Protection of Patients, said doctors, nurses and paramedics had provided numbers for the group’s estimate of fatalities.
