Toxicology results have confirmed that an 18-year-old Irvine man who collapsed and died last month while hiking with his father near Landers died from heat exhaustion, San Bernardino County coroners officials said Wednesday. Tests showed that Al Spellmire did not have any alcohol or drugs in his body when he died July 12.

Spellmire and his father were searching for help in 100-degree temperatures after their car got stuck in the sand in the Johnson Valley off-road recreational area.
