Reagan-bashing

When CBS first announced it would not be airing “The Reagans,” I was sure -- liberal Democrat that I am -- that the network had caved in to ... whoever it is one caves in to. But after watching the first 30 minutes on Showtime last Sunday, the only thing I can’t figure out is why CBS bought the film in the first place.

This movie was, from the very first frame, a contemptible, one-sided assault on a man’s character. I happen to think Reagan made a lousy governor and a worse president, but I do not think he was retarded, as the film strongly implied. And while I do not know Nancy Reagan personally, I find it hard to believe she was actually born in hell and sent to California by the devil -- another strong implication in the film.
