Tropical Storm Odette Set to Wreak Havoc
From Times Wire Reports
Tropical Storm Odette -- the first named storm known to form in the Caribbean in December -- bore down on Haiti’s south coast, threatening to unleash mudslides and flash floods, especially in the country’s deforested mountains, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
Odette could reach Hispaniola island early today and drop heavy rain on Haiti and the island’s other nation, the Dominican Republic. In 1994, mudslides from Tropical Storm Gordon buried at least 829 Haitians.
