* The Commerce Department said it had launched an investigation that could lead to steep anti-dumping duties on more than $1 billion of wooden bedroom furniture imports from China.

* AT&T; Corp. said it was reducing its workforce by 12% instead of a previously announced 10%. The nation’s largest long-distance carrier began the year with 71,000 employees, meaning about 8,500 jobs are being cut.

* Personal-computer shipments will rise 11% this year to a record as consumer demand and price cuts drive the biggest buying jump since 2000, market researcher IDC said.

* Ingram Micro Inc., the world’s biggest distributor of computers and related parts, said sales this quarter would be at the high end of its previous forecast as demand recovers. The Santa Ana company had predicted fourth-quarter sales of $5.7 billion to $5.9 billion. Ingram Micro still expects profit of 21 cents to 24 cents a share.

* Ryland Group Inc. raised its dividend fivefold to 40 cents a share and said it would continue to buy back its stock to signal confidence in its profit outlook.
