A budget crunch is shutting down the Superior Court system in Sonoma County for the holidays.

California’s budget woes have left the county’s court system with nearly a 5% funding shortfall. Instead of laying off employees, court administrators pushed for unpaid furloughs to make up the gap.

Most courtrooms and court offices will close at noon on Wednesday and reopen on Jan. 5.
