Children’s Hospital Gets $1-Million Bequest

Children’s Hospital has received a $1-million gift from the estate of Joan Kroc, officials said.
Kroc, the widow of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, died Oct. 12 in Rancho Santa Fe. Her estate was estimated to be worth $1.7 billion.
Kroc did not specify how the money is to be spent. The hospital decided to add it to the Children’s Patient Care Fund, which allows the hospital to treat children who have little or no health insurance.
About half of the children who come to the hospital for care fall into that category, said David Gillig, the hospital’s senior vice president.
