A man who allegedly lied to doctors to receive nearly $9,000 in workers’ compensation benefits has been charged with six felony counts by the Humboldt County district attorney’s office.

A report by the Fraud Division of the California Department of Insurance said that Clifford Strachan, 53, of Eureka, made the false statements to receive the benefits. Strachan hurt his shoulder in November 2001 while carrying wooden planks.

The complaint alleges that beginning July 18, Strachan told various doctors that he was unable to “hold onto a plate” with his left hand. Strachan will be arraigned in Humboldt County Superior Court Jan. 20.
