Support Is Shown for Injured Teacher
A popular substitute teacher know as the “Santa sub” for his long white beard and years playing the role of Santa Claus at local malls has received an outpouring of good will after he was critically injured by a hit-and-run driver last week.
Tom Urban, 52, remains hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a pickup last week in front of the school where he teaches. Police were still searching for the driver.
Urban’s wife, Cathy, said she was grateful for the support. Besides gifts like a Christmas tree, the family has received about $2,000 in donations.
Some people “came by and decorated the whole front of our house. It’s absolutely beautiful,” said Cathy Urban.
