From Times Wire Reports
Striking police officers returned to work and the death toll in two days of violent street protests rose to 22 in La Paz, Bolivia’s administrative capital.
Some protests continued but more peacefully. Police, who had joined the protests, resumed their duties and were cheered by residents.
The officers began restoring order after demonstrators set fire to government buildings and looted stores in violence that began as a protest against a new income tax.
The government suspended the levy to calm the unrest.
