Icecoldbeeratreds Is Euthanized

Share

Icecoldbeeratreds, winner of the Del Mar Futurity and last year’s champion California-bred 2-year-old male, was euthanized Wednesday after breaking his shoulder during a gallop over the training track at Santa Anita.

Icecoldbeeratreds, named after a popular restaurant across the street from the Del Mar track, had just resumed training for trainer Bob Baffert after knee surgery prevented him from running in the California Cup Juvenile in November. The colt, thought to be better at shorter distances, had not been nominated to the Triple Crown series.

Icecoldbeeratreds’ final race was a second-place finish behind Toccet in the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park in October. His record showed three wins and one second in five starts, with purses of $353,800. Icecoldbeeratreds was bred and owned by Mike Pegram, who won the 1998 Kentucky Derby and Preakness with Real Quiet.
