‘CSI’ proves its case again

The investigators of CBS’ “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” fought off strong challenges by Homer Simpson, Al Bundy and “Joe Millionaire” to top the television ratings for the week of Feb. 10-16, based on viewing estimates issued Thursday by Nielsen Media Research.

The ratings were delayed due to the Presidents Day holiday.

An original episode Feb. 13 of “CSI,” TV’s top-rated series, held off Fox specials on Sunday, including the 300th episode of “The Simpsons” and a “Married ... With Children” reunion, which landed in the top 10. However, Fox came out on top in the valued 18-49 demographic (the age group most prized by advertisers) with the penultimate “Joe Millionaire.”

“CSI” will most likely be dethroned this week, in the face of the finales of “Joe Millionaire” and “The Bachelorette” and network specials about singer Michael Jackson.

Displaying considerable strength is Fox’s “American Idol” and CBS’ “Survivor: Amazon,” which has male and female teams facing off against each other. But other midseason shows, including NBC’s “A.U.S.A.” and ABC’s “Veritas: The Quest” and “Miracles,” are struggling, and the premiere of ABC’s unscripted “Are You Hot?” scored lukewarm ratings. ABC’s “Dragnet,” which had cooled in its second week, bounced back a bit with its third episode.
