From Times Wire Reports
Government forces killed seven suspected Islamic rebels in separate gun battles, while villagers in the Indian-held part of Kashmir fled heavy cross-border shelling by Indian and Pakistani troops, police said.
Among those killed was a commander of the Pakistan-based rebel group Jaish-e-Mohammed, said Neeraj Sharma, a spokesman for India’s paramilitary force. Meanwhile, at least 20 Pakistani artillery shells landed in the village of Kaksar on Friday, destroying about six homes. No casualties were reported.
