Kenyan Says Bye-Bye to Moi and Dreadlocks

From Times Wire Reports

A top Kenyan activist shaved his dreadlocks to mark the end of President Daniel Arap Moi’s rule, fulfilling a vow he made 13 years ago not to cut his hair until the autocrat left power.

Koigi wa Wamwere said he would offer his shoulder-length locks to Kenya’s national museum as a monument to his long fight for democracy under Moi, who stepped down last week.

This “does not suggest that our problems our over, I hope it means that we have the freedom to begin fighting these problems,” Wamwere, 52, said.
