Elton John to be given a lifetime achievement award at concert

Elton John will be the honoree at a benefit concert on Friday at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim. Among more than a dozen acts confirmed to join John at the performance are Ray Charles, Brian Wilson, Randy Newman, Norah Jones, Vanessa Carlton, John Mayer, Amy Grant, Diana Krall and Michael McDonald.

John is receiving the Yamaha lifetime achievement award, previously bestowed on Wilson, Stevie Wonder and others.

A portion of the proceeds from the concert will be donated to three organizations that support music education. The concert is being held in conjunction with the NAMM 2003 winter conference, which opens Thursday at the Anaheim Convention Center.
