The Unkindest Cut of All for Fullmer

If you’re ever wondering why major league baseball players appear bent on squeezing every last dime they can get out of the team owners, please refer to the Brad Fullmer story. Here’s a guy who had a solid season and the club’s front office put him on waivers in a bald-faced move to avoid arbitration and force him to take a 71.4% pay cut.

Instead of getting a raise from $3.5 million to the arbitration salary of $5 million (still not so outlandish by today’s standards), our man Fullmer got manipulated into a cut all the way down to a paltry million bucks. The shine is off the halo.
