Deputy Held in Alleged Assault on Parolee

A Kern County sheriff’s deputy has been booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly beat a man on parole with a baton.
Benjamin Conway, 43, a 16-year veteran of the force, was arrested Thursday following a two-week investigation after a colleague accused him of using excessive force in the incident.
Conway has been on paid administrative leave since Jan. 3.
