Plunge Into Cohabitation

Share

KCBS-TV Channel 2 and KCAL-TV Channel 9 were married officially months ago, but starting today the two stations will finally move in together under one roof.

The KCAL news operation and its staffers have moved from their longtime offices on Melrose Avenue, next to Paramount Studios, to the KCBS Columbia Square headquarters on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, and the Viacom-owned stations today will start broadcasting from the same building.

“The consolidation will be complete,” said Don Corsini, president and general manager of the two stations. “Both stations will start sharing resources, and we will be able to cover Los Angeles like no one else can. And it should be obvious for our viewers to see that the two stations are related.”

Both stations will have new sets, new logos and new graphics. One central assignment desk will handle both news operations, and general assignment reporters will file stories for both stations. KCAL and KCBS anchors will remain at their home anchor desks.

The combined news staff will be managed by News Director Nancy Bauer Gonzales, who has been in charge of KCAL’s news operation and will produce the newscasts for both stations.
